Remember the cold winter of 2010, the snow, the bitter chill?
Well just over the last few days end of February/early March 2018 we have experienced that same ice cold winter reminiscent of 2010. The very reason the WNSMK was indeed formed was to provide supervised overnight accommodation to homeless and vulnerable people who would otherwise be rough sleeping during the extreme winter months of early December and and mid-March each year. They work in partnership with several Milton Keynes churches that provide their facilities free of charge. A large team of volunteers from across the city come together to cook nutritious meals and provide a friendly safe environment each evening.
Last year 1st Financial Foundations raised money to support the shelter. This year one of our team members volunteered to help out hands on and experienced first hand the good work both volunteers and long term supporters of the shelter provide.
“Its eye opening, no one can quite imagine what it must be like to live on the streets, no hot running water, no tv or mod cons… no privacy or choice.”
We all like to say we do our bit for charity, helping others is indeed a very noble thing to do, some donate their money and some donate their time. So many families deserve to spend time with their loved ones in their own home, sometimes this is not always possible due to work, illness not having the time, let it be a learning curve we should all make the time no matter what the circumstances are as you will never get that back and can not measure that in monetary value.
It has come to our attention the growing number of homeless people in our Milton Keynes local community.
As the winter months kick in and we experience the noticeable drop in temperature. What we all take for granted is a place to sleep and call our home.
Help the homeless
We have recognised the important work of Winter Night Shelter MK (WNSMK). Over the last 5 years they have provided overnight accommodation to homeless and vulnerable people during the extreme winter months. They also help people into accommodation and work – in essence they help rebuild lives.
“People arrive at the Winter Night Shelter for many reasons. They can be old or young, men and women. Some are long term homeless, but many are the victims of circumstance. They may have deteriorating domestic issues, They may have lost jobs and no longer be able to pay for accommodation. Illness and disability are also factors that make people homeless.”
1st Financial Foundations have chosen to support the charity and will donate 10% of our fees for each mortgage case we receive over the next 3 months from December 2016.
